GENERAL OVERVIEW

What is Geofence Event Targeting?
Geofence Event Targeting is a location-based advertising strategy that uses GPS to create a virtual boundary—or 'geofence'—around an event venue. When mobile devices enter that boundary, Shared Audiences can serve digital ads to those users in real-time, and continue to retarget them up to 30 days after the event.

What does the cost include?
Pricing includes geofence targeting, delivery of display, video, or connected TV (CTV) ads, up to 30 days of retargeting the event audience post-event, and performance reporting. It does not include ad design; clients are responsible for providing final creative assets.
Are there additional fees?
There are no hidden charges. A 3% processing fee is applied to credit card payments.

The max display files size is 200 kb, and accepted file types are .GIF, .JPG, or .PNG.

For all ads with partially black, white, or transparent backgrounds, you must add a visible border of contrasting color to the majority background color of the creative.

The preferred video and CTV dimensions are 1920x1080 or 1920x1200. The minimum accepted dimension is 768x576. Duration can be 15, 30, or 60 seconds, and must be under the file size of 200 MB.

The audio bitrate minimum is 160 kbps, and the video bitrate minimum is 5.4 mbps. Recommended file type is .MP4 (h.264), but we also accept .AVI, .MOV, or .MPEG.

What is the required lead time to launch?
  • Signed IO: at least 14 days prior to campaign start.
  • Ad creatives and landing pages: due 7 days prior to launch.

TARGETING & RETARGETING

How does geofence targeting work?
We define precise virtual perimeters around a venue, hotel, or area. Devices that enter the geofenced location are anonymously tracked, and ads are served to them while present and for 30 days afterward.
Can we retarget the same audience after the event?
Yes. Devices captured during the event are eligible for retargeting for up to 30 days. You can use different creatives and landing pages during this period to match post-event goals.
Can we target hotels, streets, or other locations?
Absolutely. You can include surrounding hotels, lounges, or adjacent venues in the campaign. Each campaign can include up to 25 geofence polygons and 5 conversion zones for foot-traffic attribution.
Is international geofencing supported?
Yes. We can geofence any event around the world. The number of mobile IDs that can be captured will vary significantly outside the U.S. due to privacy regulations.

TRACKING & REPORTING

What kind of reporting is available?

You will receive comprehensive performance reporting that includes:

  • Total impressions delivered
  • Click-through rates (CTR) by ad unit
  • Unique devices reached
  • Foot-traffic conversions
  • Domains and apps where ads were served
What kind of CTR should we expect?
The industry average for CTR in display advertising is around 0.06–0.08%. Our geofenced campaigns frequently exceed this, with some reaching 0.80% or higher, depending on creative quality and relevance.

CREATIVE STRATEGY

Can we change ad creatives after the event?
Yes. Many customers choose to run one version of ads during the event (with booth number, giveaways, or live CTAs) and then switch to a new set of creatives post-event focused on lead capture or demo requests. You may change your ad creative up to 3 times per campaign.
What should our ads focus on?
  • During event: Promote booth number, product demos, giveaways, or speaker appearances.
  • Post-event: Highlight follow-up offers, demo bookings, or value-based content (e.g., whitepapers, case studies).

CUSTOMER SUPPORT

Will we have a dedicated point of contact?
Yes. A Shared Audiences team member will be assigned to your campaign and serve as your ongoing contact for setup, delivery, and reporting.
How quickly can you respond to questions or updates?
We prioritize responsiveness and will reply promptly via email. For urgent issues, we typically respond same-day.
What happens if we miss a deadline?
We’ll make every effort to accommodate late submissions, but delays may impact launch timing or ad approvals. We strongly recommend meeting the outlined deadlines.

MISCELLANEOUS

Can you show us where our ads appear?
Yes. We can provide previews and mockups showing your ads on sample publisher sites, as well as live data on top-performing placements.
Can we test multiple messages in one campaign?
Yes. You may submit several creatives for A/B testing or multi-message targeting. The platform will optimize delivery based on performance.
Do we need to use a tracking pixel?
No, but we highly recommend it. Without the pixel, you’ll miss view-through conversion data and full campaign attribution.
